Sandhya Chanda

     Sandhya Chanda, 87, of Peoria, passed away at 3:08 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Bella Vista Care Center in Peoria Heights.
     Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria. Cremation rites will be accorded, following the visitation.
     Sandhya was born in CoochBehar, West Bengal, India on October 14, 1923, a daughter of Govinda and Charubala (Majumdar) Guha. She married Narayan Kumar Chanda on July 6, 1941 in Calcutta, India. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1979 in Madras, India. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Dr. Mala Chatterjee; one grandson; five brothers; and three sisters.
     She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Geeta Damodar of Bangalore, India; son, Ashok Chanda of Peoria; grandchildren, Monisha Thomas, Amit Chanda, Shonalee Cariappa and Abigail Chanda; and three great grandchildren.
     Memorial contributions may be made in Sandhya’s memory to the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery Program or Harbor Light Hospice.
